Are Air Conditioners a safer alternative?

November 12, 2019

To live comfortably in a city like Mumbai, or anywhere in India for that matter, Air conditioners have become a necessity. Air conditioners are an escape from the increasing levels of heat in the atmosphere. Indoor air quality is 10 times more harmful than outdoor air given space, time spent and concentration of pollutants, and it is assumed that Air Conditioners can repair the indoor air quality. However, they manage to contribute more towards lowering the quality of air while only conditioning it and not treating it.

Air conditioners successfully keep homes or workplaces cool but fail to keep them pollutant free. As surprising as this may be, it also raises the question of what air filters do in air conditioners if they’re not safe to use. There are small allergens in indoor air which the air filter fails to filter out, adding more to poor quality indoor air.

PM 2.5 is a small particulate matter in which air filters in air conditioning systems fail to filter creating an uncomfortable workplace, breathing problems, lack of attention and low productivity, etc. Air conditioners alone put the atmosphere in more danger but one doesn’t have to remove them to improve indoor air quality.

ActiveBuildings are here to help with such issues. We design sensors that help determine air quality and offer solutions based on current air filtering systems and their optimization. ActiveBuildings is on a mission to monitor and improve the level of air quality and optimize the energy consumption and air quality of every building through solutions that are not only cost-efficient but also tailor-made to each building, its use, its occupants and its existing quality solutions.
